Maynard’s elder brother died in infancy. He was himself described as of good intellectual parts and prodigious physical strength, able to tear a horseshoe in half. A lawyer like his father, he was named in both returns for the family borough of Bere Alston and presumably took his seat at once. Lord Wharton listed him as a friend, but the only evidence of his attendance at the House is his appointment with his father to the committee to restore the title of the Duke of Norfolk on 29 Nov. He is not known to have stood in 1661, and died in his chambers in the Middle Temple on 28 May 1662.2Plymouth City Lib. J. Prince, Devon Worthies; Cal. I. Temple Recs. iii. 444.
