Montagu’s elder brother, the 4th Earl of Manchester, took a prominent part in the Revolution, and he was probably unopposed at the general election of 1689. He seems to have been less active in the House than Charles Montagu or Edward Montagu II, though he was added to the committee to consider Irish miscarriages when it was revived on 18 July 1689. Though probably a Whig, he did not support the disabling clause in the bill to restore corporations. Re-elected in 1690, he died of a fever in his chambers on 4 Dec. 1693.1Hatton Corresp. (Cam.
