Both Leigh’s father and grandfather had represented Isle of Wight boroughs in Parliament. He himself was returned for Newtown in 1702 as a Court supporter. Forecast as a probable opponent of the Tack, he duly voted against it or was absent on 28 Nov. 1704. Otherwise his activity is impossible to distinguish from that of Henry Lee and Thomas Legh I and II. Leigh did not stand for Parliament in 1705 or at any time afterwards, and died in April 1743.1 London Mag. 1743, p. 205.
