Returned at a by-election in 1714 on the interest of his father and of his great-uncle Sir William Forester*, Newport’s brief term in the House was uneventful. At the next general election he gave way to his uncle, Hon. Thomas Newport*; nor did he stand at the by-election held in July 1716 after the latter had resigned his seat.
