A life long Tory, but not a Jacobite, Vaughan was the adopted heir of his wife’s uncle, Edward Vaughan, M.P., from whom he inherited large estates in Montgomeryshire.2Mont. Colls. xiv. 376-8, 388. Returned for his county in 1715 for the sixteenth consecutive time, he voted against the septennial bill in 1716. He died December 1718, his property going to his son-in-law, Watkin Williams Wynn.
