A practising lawyer,1Cal. I. Temple Recs. iv. 122, 130, 248. and chief agent of Brownlow Cecil, Earl of Exeter, Barbor bought the manor of Somerford in 1734 for £5,400.2J. Drakard, Hist. Stamford, 156 note B; VCH Staffs. v. 35. He was returned for Stamford in 1747 on Lord Exeter’s interest, but is described by the 2nd Lord Egmont in his electoral survey c.1749-50 as one of ‘Lord Gower’s creatures’. He died 22 July 1761.
