Sir Dewey Bulkeley, a minor at his father’s death, came of a family seated at Burgate since the time of Henry VI.1VCH Hants, iv. 570. He was returned unopposed for Bridport in 1719 at a by-election caused by the accession of his brother-in-law, William Coventry, to the peerage. His only recorded vote was against the peerage bill. Re-elected in 1722, he did not stand again. He died 7 Nov. 1735.
