Patrick (sometimes called Peter) Campbell, who came of an old Argyllshire family, was attached to the 2nd Duke of Argyll, to whom he owed his return in 1722 and 1734 for Buteshire, sitting for Elgin Burghs in the intervening Parliament, in which Buteshire was not represented. In Parliament he followed the politics of his patron, voting with the Government till Argyll went into opposition in 1739, when Campbell voted against the Spanish convention. He did not secure a seat in the 1741 Parliament, in which Buteshire was not represented, nor in 1747, when the 2nd Duke had been succeeded by Lord Ilay as 3rd Duke of Argyll. He died 18 Feb. 1751.
