biography text

Carew came of an old Surrey family, seated at Beddington since the end of the 14th century. Returned as a Whig for Haslemere, he supported the Administration after 1715, except on the peerage bill, which he opposed. In the absence of an Onslow candidate he successfully contested Surrey in 1722, dying shortly before the next general election, 18 Mar. 1727.
