Thomas Cartwright was the grandson of a Roundhead lawyer, whose father bought Aynho 1615-16. Himself a Tory and a member of the October Club, he was the first of his family to represent the county, for which he sat in every Parliament but two from 1695 till his death, 10 Mar. 1748, voting after 1714 consistently against the Government except on the motion for the removal of Walpole in 1741.
