Lord George Cavendish was returned for Weymouth and Melcombe Regis at a by-election in 1751 by Bubb Dodington, on the recommendation of Henry Pelham, under a recently concluded agreement giving the Government the right to nominate two of the four Members for that constituency.1Dodington Diary, 85. In 1754 he was returned for his county, which he represented till his death, 2 May 1794.
