In the late 16th century Serjeant Edward Drewe, an eminent lawyer, purchased the manor of Broadhembury, which was inherited by Drewe’s father on the death of an elder brother in 1710.1Vivian, Vis. Devon, Devons, 306-7. Returned as a Tory for Exeter, Drewe after 1715 voted consistently against the Government till he retired in 1734. He died 13 Sept. 1734.
