biography text

In 1727 John Drummond, 10th baron of Lennoch and 3rd of Megginch, was returned for Perthshire on the interest of the 2nd Duke of Atholl, who subsequently married his daughter.

There was a keen contest between the Atholl and Gleneagles [Haldane] families, which ran very near. But as Mr. Craigie and his friends, who assumed the name of the ‘Bridge of Earn Club’ had not declared, both sides desired that they should name the Member. They chose Mr. Drummond of Megginch, whom the wags of those days called Sir Francis Wronghead [a character in The Provoked Husband by Vanbrugh and Cibber].1Ramsay of Ochteryre, Scotland and Scotsmen in 18th Cent. i. 119 n.2.

He voted with the Government on the army in 1732, was absent from other divisions, and did not stand again. He died in 1752.
