Under William III Fagg’s grandfather sat for Steyning, which his father, a leading Sussex Tory, contested unsuccessfully in 1722 and 1727. When Fagg stood for it in 1734, the 1st Duke of Chandos wrote:

I am for Lord Carnarvon joining openly with Mr. Fagg, who by the character I had of him, is really a very deserving gentleman and whose behaviour ... has been such as will engage me on all occasions to be his humble servant.17 Feb. 1734, Chandos letter bks.

Returned with Carnarvon, standing jointly, Fagg voted with the Opposition against the Spanish convention in 1739, and for the place bill in 1740. He died 14 Sept, 1740, leaving the family estates to his sister Elizabeth, who afterwards married Sir Charles Goring, 5th Bt., son of Sir Henry Goring
