Simon Fanshawe’s father, of an old Derbyshire family, inherited Fanshawe Gate and Dengie in 1716 from the 5th Viscount Fanshawe.1H. C. Fanshawe, Hist. Fanshawe Fam. 264 et seq. As the friend of Lord Lincoln, the nephew of the Pelhams, he was brought in at Old Sarum in 1751 by Pelham, who had ‘a thorough good opinion of him’.2Ld.
