biography text
Robert Henley inherited Glanville Wootton from his mother’s family. On the death of his kinsman Henry Holt Henley in 1748, he was returned for Lyme Regis, presumably as a stop-gap, by John Scrope, ‘quite contrary to the inclinations of one so advanced in years.’1Ben Hollett and Robt. Henley to Azariah Pinney, 14 and 16 May 1748, Pinney mss. The last of several members of his family to represent the borough, he did not stand again, dying 2 Sept. 1758.
