Felton Hervey was unjustly dismissed as a boy from his post of page to the Princess of Wales, but was subsequently vindicated. After succeeding his brother, Thomas, as equerry to the Queen, he was appointed to the Duke of Cumberland’s household at a salary of £400 p.a. In 1746 his father chose him to succeed his elder brother, Thomas, as Member for Bury St. Edmunds, because, though ‘a known courtier’, he was ‘the only son of all those it pleased God to give me who never yet had disobeyed me, and therefore I UNASKED nominated him’.1Letter Bks. of John Hervey, 1st Earl of Bristol, iii. 141-2, 147-8, 312. He died 16 Aug. 1773.
