Lowe, who inherited considerable sugar plantations in Jamaica,1R. M. Howard, Longs of Jamaica, i. 58-59. was reported to have £7,000 a year. When he stood for Aldeburgh in 1718, he was said to be proposing to buy all the herrings in the town at a cost of £2,000.2John Ward to Sir Hen. Johnson, 19 Nov. 1718, Add. 22248, f. 60. Lord Strafford, against whose interest he was standing, afterwards described him as a gamester.322 Nov. 1719, Add. 22248, f. 90. Returned after a contest, he voted for the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts and for the peerage bill in 1719, but subsequently went over to the Opposition, voting with them on the civil list arrears in 1729 and the Hessians in 1730. He died 19 July 1731, leaving his fortune to his two sisters, one of whom married Theobald Taaffe.
