biography text
Marsham, whose father had represented Maidstone in four Parliaments, was himself returned there on his family’s interest for the fourth time in 1715. A staunch Whig, he was appointed in April 1715 to the second committee set up by the Commons to inquire into the late peace and the conduct of the late Tory ministry. One of the earliest peers created by George I, he is said to have paid £5,000 for his title.1HMC Egmont Diary, iii. 260. He died 28 Nov. 1724.
