biography text
During the seventeenth century the Oxendens, an old Kent family, had provided Members for Sandwich. Returned as a Whig for Sandwich on the family interest, Oxenden voted with the Administration on the septennial bill in 1716 but was absent from the division on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts in 1719. In a list drawn up by Craggs before the peerage bill in 1719 he is put down as to be approached on behalf of the Government by Josiah Burchett, but he did not vote in the division on the bill. He died 21 Apr. 1720.
