Descended from a junior branch of the Pelhams of Sussex, Charles Pelham was returned as a Tory for Grimsby in 1722, transferring in 1727 to Beverley, where he had inherited property from his uncle. In Parliament he voted against the Government, except on the motion for Walpole’s dismissal in February 1741, when he was one of the Tories who withdrew before the division. Retiring in 1754, he died 6 Feb. 1763.
