Edmund Pleydell’s father was M.P. for Wootton Bassett and grandson of Sir Charles Pleydell of Midgehall, who died in 1642. His mother’s family, to whom he was heir, had lived at Milborne since the fifteenth century.1Hutchins, Dorset, i. 196; ii. 594, 599. Unseated on petition at Dorchester in 1723, he was returned for the county as a Tory in the next three Parliaments, in which he voted consistently against the Administration. Not standing again, he died 16 Mar. 1754.
