William Steele, a merchant, of unknown parentage, was returned unopposed at Hindon, a venal borough, in 1741. Voting with the Administration in all recorded divisions, he was classed as an Old Whig in 1746, but did not stand again. He died shortly before 9 July 1748, appointing his friend John Selwyn to be his executor.1PCC 226 Strahan.
