biography text
Strode’s father, a Leadenhall Street broker, who acted for the South Sea Company, bought estates in Hertfordshire and elsewhere.1Nichols, Lit. Anecs. iv. 276; viii. 510; PCC 25 Brook. Returned as a Tory for Reading at a contested by-election in 1740, he was unseated on petition. Recovering his seat unopposed at the general election, he voted against the Administration in all recorded divisions. He did not stand in 1747 but was again returned at the top of the poll in 1754, when he was gravely ill.2HMC 5th Rep. 364-5. He died 29 Apr. 1755.
