biography text
Francis Swanton, whose father had been recorder of Salisbury and M.P. for the city, came of a family with long connexions with the Middle Temple. Returned as a Tory in 1715, he voted against the Government in all recorded divisions. His name was sent to the Pretender early in 1721 as a probable supporter in the event of a rising.2Stuart mss 65/16. He died 25 Apr. 1721.
