Lisburne’s father had taken vigorous measures against the Jacobites as lord lieutenant of his county during and just after the Fifteen rebellion, asking for the help of regular troops.2Ld. Lisburne to Paul Methuen, 4 Jan. 1717, SP Dom. 35/8, f. 68. Returned as a Whig for Cardiganshire in he 1727, voted with the Government on the excise bill in 1733 and the repeal of the Septennial Act in 1734, but did not stand again. Holding estates under the Crown, he was being prosecuted by the Treasury for arrears of rent in 1737, but was granted a stay of execution in May 1738.3Cal. Treas.
