Verney inherited a large estate in Buckinghamshire and the control of both seats at Wendover, where he succeeded his father in January 1753 as a government supporter. About this time he bough1Narrative of the purchase of Stokke manor, Savernake mss. the manor of Stokke, in Great Bedwyn, Wilts.,t with a view to establishing an interest there in opposition to Lord Bruce before the 1754 election. He died 31 Mar. 1791.
