Galfridus Walpole, a naval officer, lost his right arm in an action in the Mediterranean in 1711.1Charnock, Biog. Navalis, iii. 376. Brought into Parliament and provided with a sinecure in 1715 by his brother, Robert, whom he followed into opposition in 1717, without losing his place, he vacated his seat in 1721 on appointment to the office of joint postmaster general, which disqualified its holder from sitting in the House of Commons. He died 7 Aug. 1726.
