biography text
Walter was the great grandson of Sir John Walter, M.P., of Wolvercot, Oxon., lord chief baron of the Exchequer and a benefactor of Jesus College, Oxford. His grandfather, the first baronet, had represented the county under Charles II. Reelected unopposed as a Tory for Oxford in 1715 and 1722, he voted against the Administration in every recorded division. He died 11 June 1722, leaving £1,000 to his friend Lord Harcourt, and his whole estate to his wife, with reversion to his brother, who succeeded him to the baronetcy.2HMC Portland, vii. 328-9. His widow subsequently married Harcourt.
