b. 17 June 1665, 3rd s. of Edward Watson, 2nd Baron Rockingham, by Anne, da. of Thomas Wentworth, M.P., 1st Earl of Strafford, sis. and coh. to William, 2nd Earl of Strafford. educ. Ch. Ch. Oxf. 1683. m. (lic. 18 July 1689) Alice, da. of Sir Thomas Proby, 1st Bt., M.P., of Elton Hall, Hunts., 1s. suc. 1695 to Wentworth Woodhouse and the bulk of the estates of his uncle, the 2nd Earl of Strafford, taking the name of Wentworth after Watson.

Succeeding to the bulk of the great Wentworth estates in Yorkshire, Northamptonshire, and Ireland, Thomas Watson Wentworth sat for 20 years for his boroughs of Malton and Higham Ferrers. Classed in 1715 as a Whig who would often vote with the Tories, he voted against the Government in every recorded division except on Lord Cadogan. He died 6 Oct. 1723.
