After contesting Hastings unsuccessfully in 1734,2John Collier to Newcastle, 18 Apr. 1734, Add. 32689, f. 200. Webster was returned in 1741 unopposed at East Grinstead, where his father had acquired an interest. Voting consistently against the Government, he was classed as Opposition in 1747. Despite this he wrote to Newcastle, 12 Apr. 1751, asking for a place in Prince George’s establishment for his brother-in-law, Sir Edmund Thomas.3Add. 32724, f. 231.

He died 21 Sept. 1779.
