biography text

A member of the October Club, Williams, who had acquired the important Gwernyfed estate at his marriage, was classed as a Tory on his return in 1715, but appears to have changed sides, as he voted for the septennial bill in 1716. No other votes of his are recorded but on the peerage bill in 1719 he was put down by Sunderland as ‘pro’, and by Craggs as ‘doubtful’, to be approached through ‘Wroth and Coventry’, presumably Robert Wroth and Lord Coventry. He died July 1721.
