Winstanley was the grandson of James Winstanley of Gray’s Inn, recorder of Leicester 1653-62, who purchased the manor of Braunstone, two miles from Leicester, in 1650.1Nichols, Leics. iv. 629*. A moderate Tory, who had voted against the French commercial treaty, he was re-elected unopposed for Leicester in 1715. He voted against the septennial bill in 1716, was absent from the division on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts in 1719, and died a fortnight later, 22 Jan. 1719, aged 51.
