The Wodehouses were the leading Tory family in Norfolk, which they had frequently represented. Wodehouse, whose father’s name was sent to the Pretender in 1721 as a leading Norfolk Jacobite with an estate of £5,000 p.a.,1Stuart mss 65/10. was returned for the county after a close and expensive contest in 1734, when he was also returned for Cirencester by his father-in-law, Lord Bathurst. Choosing to sit for Norfolk, he died v.p.of smallpox in London, 13 May 1737.
