biography text
Of an old Worcester family, who had bought the property known as the Commandery in 1544, Wylde represented his native city as a Whig for 26 years without a break. Obtaining a place in 1715, he was absent from the division on the septennial bill in 1716, but voted with the Government on the repeal of the Occasional Conformity and Schism Acts and on the peerage bill in 1719. He lost his seat in 1727, when, having ‘greatly impaired his fortune by electoral contests’,1W. R. Williams, Worcs. Members, 100. he exchanged his place for one incompatible with a seat in the House of Commons.
He died 12 Apr. 1740.
