biography text

Affleck was present at the meeting convened on 14 Jan. 1757 by George Townshend, apparently with Pitt’s approval, to discuss how to proceed with the inquiry into the loss of Minorca. He declined to stand again in 1761 but, to preserve the peace of the county, seems to have taken a hand in fixing up the succession.1See SUFFOLK constituency and BUNBURY, Thomas Charles.

At Amersham he sat on the Drake interest as a stop-gap until the general election of 1768. He died 17 Feb. 1776.
