biography text

In 1747 Barry was returned on the Tory interest at Wigan in place of his father. In 1754 a contest was threatened but there was no poll. Barry did not stand again in 1761; his influence at Wigan had been undermined by an opposition who, backed by Administration, had in 1759 established their predominance by having their candidate elected mayor.

Barry died 23 Nov. 1787.
