Marton’s family came from Yorkshire, but in the early 18th century his father purchased property in Lancashire, including Capernwray and the advowson of Lancaster. He was returned unopposed for Lancaster in 1754, and listed by Dupplin as a Government supporter. He died 4 Dec. 1758.
