In 1754 Shuttleworth declined to stand for Preston, and in 1761 was returned unopposed for Lancashire. In Bute’s list of December 1761 he was classed as a Tory. His only known votes in this Parliament were against Grenville’s Administration over Wilkes, 15 Nov. 1763, and against the repeal of the Stamp Act, 22 Feb. 1766; and he is not known to have spoken. He did not stand in 1768.

He died 28 June 1773.
