Tuckfield sat at Exeter on the corporation interest, and usually was counted as a Tory. In 1754 he was returned unopposed, and in 1761 at the head of the poll. He appears neither in Fox’s list of Members in favour of the peace preliminaries nor in the list of those who voted against them; was classed by Jenkinson in the autumn of 1763 as ‘doubtful’; and voted against general warrants, 15, 18 Feb. 1764. Rockingham in July 1765 also classed him as ‘doubtful’, but he did not vote against the repeal of the Stamp Act. Under the Chatham Administration he was classed by Rockingham as ‘Whig’, November 1766, and by Newcastle as ‘Tory’, March. 1767. He voted against Administration on the land tax 27 Feb. 1767. He is not known to have spoken in the House. He died 6 Dec. 1767.
