biography text

Walter Yonge, father of the 1st Baronet, sat for Honiton in the Long Parliament; and each baronet in turn represented the borough. Egmont wrote c.1750 in his survey for a new Parliament on the death of George II: ‘Sir William Yonge is so thoroughly worn out that he should be kept out of the House, and his affairs are so very bad that a pension will ensure his interest.’ In 1754 he handed over Honiton to his son, not caring to face the bustle of a contested election; and was found a seat by Administration at Tiverton. He died 10 Aug. 1755.
