Campbell, while serving in America where he was wounded, was nominated one of the captains in a new Welsh regiment which his brother John and Thomas Johnes offered to raise.
In 1780 he was enrolled as a freeholder of Inverness-shire on a qualification received from his brother,1SRO Bught mss 7/204. who also provided a qualification in Nairnshire. In 1784 Campbell was returned for Nairnshire and was listed by William Adam in May 1784 among the Opposition. He is not known to have spoken in the House. He died during the recess in November 1785.
