biography text
Curtis’s father was a Bristol merchant who bought an estate at Butcombe in Somerset. Curtis successfully contested Wells on the interest of Clement Tudway. In Parliament he voted against Shelburne’s peace preliminaries, 18 Feb. 1783; for parliamentary reform, 7 May 1783; and against Fox’s East India bill, 27 Nov. 1783. He was classed as ‘pro’ by Robinson, January 1784, and in Stockdale’s list of 19 Mar.
In 1784 Curtis did not stand again at Wells, but unsuccessfully contested Saltash on the interest of William Beckford jun., who was returned for Wells.
Curtis died 30 Nov. 1813, aged 62.
