Evelyn was returned unopposed for Helston on the Godolphin interest. He voted with Administration on Wilkes and the Middlesex election; does not appear in any of the minority lists between 1770 and 1772; was classed as ‘pro, present’ in both Robinson’s surveys on the royal marriage bill, March 1772; and as a Government supporter who voted for Grenville’s Act, 25 Feb. 1774. There is no record of his having spoken in the House.
Evelyn did not stand again in 1774. In 1780 he was elected for Helston on a double return, but in 1781 the House of Commons decided against him.
He died 15 Aug. 1783.
