Lord Euston was a Cambridge contemporary, close friend, and political adherent of William Pitt. In 1780 he was a candidate for Cambridge University, but withdrew because he would not have been of age at the general election; in 1784 he owed his success largely to Pitt’s support. In November 1784 he declined Pitt’s offer of the place of vice-chamberlain.1Pitt to the King, 8 Nov. 1784, Royal archives, Windsor. His only recorded speech was on 5 Jan. 1789, when he proposed W. W. Grenville for Speaker.
He died 28 Sept. 1844.
