biography text

Gisborne came of an old-established Derby family and possessed an influence in the town which he seems for years to have exerted on behalf of the Cavendishes. In 1775 he stood for the town, probably with Cavendish support, in opposition to D. P. Coke; was returned, but unseated as a result of petitions complaining of his ‘undue influence’ over the mayor. No vote or speech by him is reported.

He died 13 Feb. 1779, aged 62.
