biography text
Thomas Johnes contested Cardigan Boroughs on the Peterwell interest of John Adams and was seated on petition. On his father’s death in May 1780 he vacated his seat to stand for Radnorshire.
In Parliament he supported North’s Administration, and in 1780 was given a secret service pension of £500. In May 1781, at North’s recommendation, he was appointed auditor of the land revenue in Wales, and his pension then ceased.1Secret service accounts, Royal archives, Windsor. Thereafter he supported each successive Administration. There is no record of his having spoken in the House in our period.
Johnes died 23 Apr. 1816.
