An adherent of the Lowther family, in 1785 Knubley was appointed sheriff of Cumberland through Lonsdale’s influence to further his schemes for electoral supremacy. At the by-election of November 1786 Knubley successfully contested Carlisle as Lonsdale’s candidate, but in 1787 was unseated on petition.
As Lonsdale’s Member Knubley presumably supported Administration, but no vote or speech by him is recorded.
He died 22 Apr. 1815.
