Lee stood as one of Lord Thanet’s candidates for Appleby, in opposition to Sir James Lowther. Both were returned, but Lee was forced to resign when, in February 1756, Thanet and Lowther agreed to a compromise by which each should return one Member. In May 1757 Newcastle asked Devonshire to consider Lee as a candidate for Dartmouth, but nothing came of the suggestion. Lee may have been the man who unsuccessfully contested Bridport in 1761.
Lee died August 1778, aged 52.
