Mark Pringle succeeded his grand uncle as Member for Selkirkshire in March 1786. He voted with Pitt on the Regency. In the Opposition survey of Scotland in 1788-9 his politics were thus described:2Adam. Pol. State of Scotland, 320.‘Will go with the Duke of Buccleuch and Dundas, or rather with Pringle of Clifton, through whom he will succeed to a great estate, and who will always incline to support Government.’

He died 25 Apr. 1812.
